How Were You Treated as a Jehovah's Witness if You Had Depression ?

most of us who were in the jehovah's witnesses for some time realize that for years the watchtower society had always discouraged it's rank and file members from going to see therapists, or professional counselors if they had depression, or serious chemical depression.

the watchtower society always told us to go out in service more, do more personal study, be more regular at meetings - and essentially we would lose our depression , and everything would fall right back into place.

the old, " don't worry, be happy " cliche.

I just wanted to add how guilty the bOrg is for creating depression by giving FALSE PROPHECY & FALSE HOPE !!! I feel that the greatest cause of my depression was that 'my loving god' was going to murder billions of people in cold blood if I don't get out and preach. Oh yes, these last days are tough, but the 'New World' is sooooo close and will fix all the problems. Isn't that great? Oh yeah, but God'll kill billions of innocent people so that you can have a pet tiger. Oh, and if you don't preach, pray, attend meeting enough, God will kill you too. But cheer up, the 'paradise' is soooo close, it's only a few days, or maybe a hundred years away. Keep your life 'on hold' waiting for the big A. Any day now... or not. Death, destruction, mayhem, and a pet tiger. And you'll get to see your dead loved ones again, unless they secretly sinned or god just didn't like them, then you won't, but you might. Just hang on a little looonger.

Who wouldn't get depressed if they really are paying close attention to the message.

An Interesting YouTube debate I had with a JW

so most of you have probably seen my youtube video what you should know about jehovah's witnesses, which can be found here.

naturally, this draws quite a negative response from the jw community, but this particular person decided to send me a personal message.. you wanna talk smack about witnesses or anyone in general you better have your facts straight.

everything you said is taken almost enitrly out of context to our true practices.

Seriously, by just reading his 'JW' response, I can smell the barley and hops. I'm sure there are burps and hiccups in there. Here's an example:

"help us asses" is about right, although I think he wanted to say "assess". But then maybe he meant "help us assholes".

By "we", I assume that he is believes that he is one of the FDS that decides what all the sheeples should wear.

And "istitued", well after knocking back a few, "instituted" can be hard to spell.

Excellent reasoning B_D, too bad you're casting pearls before swine.

Hey, Heat it up, it's sad the way 'friends' can hurt us. And so puzzling, too.

I'm struggling without you.

That struck me as odd. He's got 'da troof' and the love of a girlfriend that he's gonna marry in 18 months. What's his "struggling without you" issues. Maybe I just don't understand the context, but does he need money, or a kidney? Does he not love da troof so much when you're not around? Shouldn't it be "Br. Heat It Up" struggling without "da troof"?

So, is he or isn't he your friend now?

Heat it up, it sounds like he really misses you and wants things back to the way they used to be. It doesn't work that way, and he knows that. With text messaging and email, it's difficult to unravel the emotions behind words... or the lack of emotion. You've got plenty of suggestions already, I have no idea what to add further...

Is the GB crooked or just misguided?

is the governing body operating seriously out of the belief that they are god's only channel to mankind?

or are they deliberately scamming people?

But Terry, they munch the crackers and sip the wine annually. And they have nearly 7 million people preaching for them. Isn't that enough to convince you that the GB really is Christ's Faithful Slave?... Nope, me neither.

I got to know several of the new GB rather well. As others have said, they have a sheltered existance, far away from the realities of life and the consequences of their actions. I don't know if I can explain the difference, but I would not say they're crooked and misguided. I would say that they're misguided, and consequently, crooked. While symantics are open to interpretation, the results are equally destructive. As Louis XVI proved, good intentions, fine living, and honorifics are irrelevant to Madame Guillotine.

I don't think it's a healthy way to live, just hanging out on EX-JW site, "missing the chatters"... and then waiting for, "something new already....new light or something"....

Kind of a sad existence, don't you think? Why not try other things? A little more balance might go a long way for you. Life has many opportunities for you to enjoy.

Jeez Vinny, I think your .02 is overpriced. I would have just left your comment alone, but telling someone, "GET A LIFE"... is insulting. Those are fighting words where I come from.

Think carefully. How well do you know oompa? He's going through a rough time with the JWs and his family. How well do you know any of us? Are you still in "elder mode"? Why don't you tell us to read our Bibles and go out in service and everything will be just wonderful? Or, why don't you just ignore threads that you don't have anything worthwhile to contribute to?

All of us have other interests. We have jobs or careers. We have what's called, "a sense of humor". But check out where you are... Is this poultryrecipes.com? Is this flyfishing.net? Is it hemorroidcreamsthatwork.org? Is it mydickisbiggerthanyours.com? No, the tag is "Jehovahs Witness Discussion Forum". People come here for help, not with cooking chicken, or butt itching issues, or even to talk about their equipment. Okay, those topics may sometimes come up around here, which is cool, but really, this is about supporting people who have JW issues.

So, if you want to spend your time "just hanging out on EX-JW site" telling others to "GET A LIFE", go find a mirror.

i remember first hearing it after the generation change of 95.. a sister answered up at the wt and said "even if armageddon isn't coming, its still the best way to live.".

i have heard others say: "even if it isn't true, it's still the best way of life.".

my mother said it a few weeks ago!
